FAQs

Some questions Ashleigh gets asked frequently. If you have any other questions that aren’t covered here, please feel free to shoot them through to Ashleigh by using the Contact page.

What’s your favorite quote?

Hmm, I would say it’s a tie between ‘Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.’ from Alice in Wonderland (Lewis Carroll) or ‘Give me but one firm spot on which to stand, and I will move the earth.’ by Archimedes. I think both these quotes are awesome in their own way. I’d never be able to pick between the two.

Where do you get your inspiration and ideas from?

Most of my ideas come from my Epic daydreams. I call them Epic because they can last for weeks or longer. I wrote Birth By Fire’s Embrace in my head long before I put pen to paper. I was often off in my own world as a child. I found normal life was simply far too boring. In my head, I could spice it up a bit. It probably didn’t help that I read a lot of Fantasy books when I was young.

Who is your Favorite Character?

Another tricky one. If I had to pick, it would be Sharrlette Moore, the main character from Birth By Fire’s Embrace. Shar is a fantastic character to write about. She has a life of her own and often gives me trouble when I’m trying to create a plot around her because of this. A close second would be Dazzaroth from the same book. He’s has such a strong personality, I can’t help but like him. Probably shouldn’t though. He’s not very nice.

Why write Fantasy?

I’m a big fan of Fantasy Novels. I started reading them as a child to escape the humdrum of normal life. The more I read, the more my urge to write grew. It started as ‘improving’ the novels I had already read and evolved into stories of my own. While I have plans to write books in other genres, I think Fantasy will always be my home.

Is there going to be a Sequel to Birth By Fire’s Embrace?

… Maybe…

Which Element would you be?

Hard to pick. They are all fantastic in their own way. But probably Fire. Or Ice.

How do you come up with the names for your Characters and Places?

A lot of my minor characters are named after people I know. I just tweak their names to fit. The main characters, however, are named very carefully. E.g. Billeaphrin was derived Bellerophon, an ancient Greek hero who rode the winged horse, Pegasus, and completed feats of daring.
